The R course contains 7 modules that are delivered over half a day.

The course aims to:

  • enhance and reinforce riders’ knowledge and skills to effectively manage riding situations on a more powerful motorcycle

Enrol in the Q-Ride pre-learner course

You can enrol in the Q-Ride pre-learner course if you hold a provisional, probationary or open car licence and have held the licence for at least 1 year.

Complete the Q-Ride pre-learner course

You must undertake the Q-Ride pre-learner course on a learner approved motorcycle. You can't undertake the course on a moped, trike or conditionally registered motorcycle.

During the course you will need to demonstrate your competency on a learner approved motorcycle. When you have been assessed as having acquired the required competencies, the Q-Ride training provider will issue you with a competency declaration (Q-Ride certificate). Your competency declaration is not a licence.

  • If your Q-Ride training provider notifies the Department of Transport and Main Roads that you have successfully completed the course you can take the motorcycle knowledge test online and automatically have the class RE learner added to your licence.
  • If your Q-Ride training provider does not notify the Department of Transport and Main Roads, you must take your competency declaration to a transport and motoring customer service centre before you can take the motorcycle knowledge test. You will also need to bring:
    • your evidence of identity.

You no longer have to complete a driver licence application form when visiting a Department of Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre.

You will still need to complete a driver licence application form (F3000) at police stations and most QGAP offices.

Your competency declaration is only valid for 1 year from the date of issue. If you do not take and pass the motorcycle knowledge test and have the RE learner added to your licence within 1 year, it will expire and you will need to do the Q-Ride course again to get a new competency declaration.
