Avoid! If you make a payment, it doesn't give you a real-time update on any payments made or even show pending until a few days later. Customer service tries but is a mess after their merger. I made a double payment and they mailed me the extra payment amount. The check has now been reissued three times because it's getting mailed to the wrong address. Their app is confusing, and they charge for Zelle. Chase and Bank of America have been a million times more pleasant and easier to deal with.

I have tried to correct a fraudulent claim with my Truist credit card. I received a charge on my card dated December 21, 2023, from Walmart.com. After going back and forth trying to prove the charge was indeed fraudulent, I am frustrated due to the bank not doing its job to research and verify with Walmart.com that no charge even shows for the month of December for the amount of $612.76. I even went to the local bank manager, who agreed and said he got in touch with an investigator to do the necessary research. I never heard back. I also filed a complaint with the BBB and received a letter stating the charge was mine. If I ever get this cleared up, I am switching to a more reliable bank!

We have been visiting the Mechanicsville Truist Bank (on Mechanicsville Turnpike) attempting to correct a credit card fraud issue that has been open for three months. On our second visit, the lady said, "Have a seat, I'll be right with you." After the two customers before us were done, the representative picked up her purse and drink, and while walking out said, "I'll be back." She left us sitting there. I have never seen such horrible customer service. She might as well have said "firetruck." I suppose that was her feeling. We went to the branch because the Fraud Department is inept, incompetent, and doesn't seem to care. Do not expect customer service at Truist Bank. They seem not to care.

Truist is not an honorable bank. I was recently contacted by their fraud department about suspicious activity on my new, unactivated card that I had not yet received. I can confirm via my USPS informed delivery emails that between the time I reported my previous card lost and the date of the first fraudulent transaction, it never made it to my mailbox.

When I received the alert from the fraud department, I immediately texted back and then called them to deny the charges. I was told there was another additional pending charge for an identical amount of approximately $1200; I was also assured the charges wouldn't post. I also later found out that Truist had denied another transaction for the same amount from a different Sam's Club location. Despite my immediate response and communication to them while both charges were pending, indicating these were not my charges, they posted the two transactions for $1200 from the other Sam's Club location.

On 1/28, I logged in and both transactions had posted. My previous account balance was $0, and for months prior, there had been no purchase activity. They claimed I activated my card on 1/22, the day of the first fraudulent transaction. I had not. They could not provide me with any details on how it was activated. By 1/28, they had also applied an automated payment from my checking account against this fraudulent balance.

I filed a claim that day (1/28) and was promised that I would not be responsible for the charges until the investigation was complete. I was also promised supplemental claim forms by email and regular mail. I never received those forms and never had a real opportunity to dispute the charges. However, by 1/31, their "investigation" concluded the charges were not fraudulent. I was still waiting for the promised claim forms.

Despite multiple attempts to reach out to Ms. Ortiz, the Truist contact person assigned to my case, I was ignored. However, she claimed to the BBB that she was in communication with me. She ignored every email I sent and I never spoke with her. This is the type of behavior I have come to expect from Truist since this incident. They also didn't have the decency to let me know the case was concluded. I had to call in to find this out and later that day (2/9), I saw their denial letter dated 2/1.

I asked about the steps taken to arrive at their decision and was bluntly told they don't have to outline the steps or explain their decision. I was told that I would have to work with Sam's Club for a refund and that the case was closed and couldn't be reopened. There was no accountability from Truist regarding their activation of my card for use by someone else or in admitting they mailed an active card. The quick pace at which my card was activated and used since requesting a new one suggests it involves an employee. However, I don't expect Truist to admit or even address this possibility.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I was a SunTrust member and came over to Truist. I have not been happy. They choose when to block card payments and they never fight for the customers' money. I love Wells Fargo for that. Truist lies and says your case is declined. You have to go behind them and contact merchants if you want your money back. One time, I had to wait for a card for nearly a week and they sent three previously locked cards before the real card came. I don't know, do they enjoy tormenting customers? I am only giving a 1-star rating out of courtesy. I paid off my card on more than one occasion. One time, the lady said the card would be locked for four days after it went to a zero balance, without explanation or any written policy. This time, I asked why the card was locked and was placed on hold until I was disconnected. I kept them because my main bank is out of town. Absolutely horrible!

Terrible customer service. Called to get a fraudulent hold taken off my credit card and I've been on hold for over 2 hours. How can this be possible? The worst bank I've ever used.

I applied for a secured card with them; I deposited 100 dollars and got denied. Yet, they still have my 100 dollars on hold. It's been more than 2 months, and these people are tampering with money from individuals who need it. I applied for the card because I needed some assistance these days, but I'm still not helped and haven't received any money back.

The easiest way you can redeem SunTrust (now Truist) rewards is by logging in to your online account and navigating to the rewards redemption section of their website. You can also redeem rewards through the Truist mobile app or by calling the Rewards Redemption Center at (800) 255-7125. But if you redeem for travel over the phone, there's a $25 service fee.

SunTrust (now Truist) Rewards Redemption Options

  • Statement credit
  • Cash back
  • Travel purchases
  • Gift cards
  • Merchandise
  • Event tickets

If you redeem credits from any Truist credit card for a deposit into your Truist personal checking, savings or money market account, you'll get a “Loyalty Cash Bonus.” The bonus could be 10%, 25% or 50% of your redemption, depending on the balances in all your Truist accounts. Higher balances mean a higher bonus. Cash redemptions into a Truist deposit account are always worth more than getting a normal statement credit.

If you have any trouble redeeming your rewards, call Truist rewards customer service at (800) 255-7125.

No, there aren't any BB&T business rewards cards available right now. BB&T is now part of Truist Bank, so the closest you'll get to a BB&T business card is the Truist Business Credit Card, which does not offer rewards. The card offers an intro APR of 0% for 12 months on purchases, followed by a regular APR of 15.49%-24.49% (V).

To get rewards, you could use a general-consumer credit card from Truist Bank for business expenses. Plus, other...

The BB&T credit cards used to offer rewards in the form of cash back and miles, depending on the card. However, it is worth noting that BB&T is now part of Truist Bank. The credit cards offered by Truist Bank give rewards in the form of cash back and miles, too.

How do I check my SunTrust credit card application status?

Sebi Mitchell, Credit Cards Moderator

@sebim

Unfortunately, you cannot check your SunTrust credit card application status anymore as the company no longer exists. SunTrust has merged with BB&T in February 2022 under the name of Truist. If you applied for a Truist credit card and wish to check your application status, you can do so by calling (844) 487-8478.
