Do waitlisted students really get into the classes that they are waitlisted for? How do you find out if you are approved to get into the class?

  • A lot of students are able to make it into classes they have waitlisted, but it all depends on thepopularity of the teacher and class. Be sure to have another class/teacher in mind as a back-up.

A professor may adjust their cap number if they under anticipated the popularity of the class. However, if they do not adjust the number, you can reach out to the professor to see if they would still be willing/able to take extra students.

Hello, I'm a foreign online student. I had a question about the religion classes I'm required to take: I've taken most of the cornerstone courses in my Institute. I was wondering if there was any way to transfer those credits, or if I just have to take the lessons again?

Forinstitute creditsto transfer toBYU-Idaho, the courses must be taken for “Church University Credit” (this organizes your credits on an official transcript rather than a "report card"). You can transfer your institute credits in one of three ways.

  • Contact your institute to request a sealed envelope of the transcripts to be sent to the following address:
    • Brigham Young University-Idaho
      Admissions Office
      Kimball Building 120-1615
      Rexburg, ID 83460
  • Request that the transcript be sent electronically totranscriptsubmit@byui.edu. The transcript needs to be an official individual CES Transcript and be signed and sent bythe institute director, secretary, or instructor (it must come from achurchofjesuschrist.org email account).
  • Send your transcript through your myInstituteacount
    • If your past classes are currently located on the institute website, follow these instructions to send the transcript to BYU-Idaho.

      • Log-in to yourmyInstituteaccount.
      • Select "Graduation" at the top of your screen.
      • Next, select "Request credit transfer".
      • Select your Church School.
      • Click "Send Request".
    • Note: If you do NOT see any of your past courses listed in your myInstituteaccount, please contact your local institute for an official transcript of those courses to be sent to the school.

Transcripts are typically evaluated and processed within 2-4 weeks after a student accepts their offer to attend BYU–Idaho and our office has received the official transfer transcripts. However, you can expect 4-6 weeks from June through September, due to the high volume of credit transferred at this time.

I have holds on my account andcan't register for classes. How do I remove them?

  • You can resolve holds in the Holds tab or the Student tab on your BYU-I account. You will need to resolve each hold individually and in some cases, this process requires two steps. Please refer toHow to Resolve Holdsfor a step-by-step. You can also visitResolve Holdsfor more information.

How do I get an exception to add a course?

  • For information on exceptions to add campus or online courses, seeRequesting an Exception to Register for a Course.

How long does it take for my transcripts to be evaluated?

  • From the time that you request your transcripts to be sent to BYU–Idaho, it generally takes 2-4 weeks for the admissions office to receive them. If all the necessary steps have been completed and BYU–Idaho has received your transcripts, it typically takes 2-4 weeks for them to be reviewed and processed.

As soon as your transcripts are reviewed and processed, the transfer evaluation unit will send you a notification email to your student email address.More information about the steps that you need to complete as well as the time line, can be found atGuidelines.
