Which brand makes the most comfortable mattresses?

In our lab, we test body support, durability and pressure distribution, and independently assess how firm or soft a mattress feels, plus much more. But mattress comfort is harder to measure, because everyone's idea of comfort is subjective.

This is where our survey comes in. As well as asking Which? members to rate their mattress brand, we also ask them to report on how comfortable their mattress is.

Our unique survey results on this question are very revealing.

  • Only 8 out of 18 mattress brands in our survey received a full five-star rating for comfort.
  • The most common reason given for replacing a mattress was because it was uncomfortable (26%).
  • One of the top reasons why members purchased a new mattress is because it felt comfortable in the shop. The number one reason? It had a Which? recommendation.
