An overview of Obstacle Races & Mud Runs in Germany.
The dates for all Obstacle Runs and Dirt Runs in Germany, including registration, course, results and other details.
Every year, about 150 obstacle courses are held in Germany. In these obstacle runs, participants have to overcome hurdles along the course. Such events are often also referred to as mud runs, obstacle runs or dirt runs.
Both natural obstacles, such as crossing a riverbed, and artificial obstacles can be placed in the way of the participants. In Germany, there are now several series of obstacle runs that offer several similar runs per year.
Which obstacle courses are there in Germany?
Well-known series include the Spartan Race, the Xletix Challenge, the Fisherman's Friend StrongmanRun or Tough Mudder. In some cases, over 10,000 runners take part in these obstacle runs, making them almost comparable to the largest running events in Germany in terms of the size of the field of participants. Also popular are the "Rats Runners" obstacle runs, most of which are held off-road and feature artificial and natural obstacles for plenty of action.
A church dirt run
Germany's dirtiest dirt run is the Dirty Church Run, which is organized by the Protestant church community. All proceeds from this run are donated to social projects. The course leads through forests and meadows and the local village Beisfört. There are also varied obstacles waiting, as well as in the start and finish area at the sports field. Every year the event attracts around 500 participants. Things get really dirty at the Great Barrier Run in Göttingen (Lower Saxony). More than 2,000 participants have to successfully cross 20 obstacles on a 5 km lap. They also have to run through a forest. Really tough dirt runners can run the course three times.
The 1,300 athletes at the Bad Wolf Dirt Run will experience nature at its most terrifying. Everywhere will be run, but not on the asphalt. The course leads through mud, basalt, forest, stones and over logs. The course is guaranteed to exhaust every participant. In addition to a medal, there is even a high-quality functional shirt as a reward. If that's not a reason to take part in the Bad Wolf Dirt Run.
Two insider tips at the end of the season
Towards the end of the year, fans of obstacle course racing have the Cross de Luxe and "Getting Tough The Race" marked in red on their calendars. At the Cross de Luxe, 3,500 participants enjoy Leipzig's Neuseendland. Around the Markkleeberger See 28 artificial and natural obstacles are set up. Undisputedly, the race is one of the most popular runs in the east of the country. No less popular is "Getting Tough the Race" in Rudolstadt (Thuringia). The 23 km long trail is full of obstacles. The grand finale follows in the finish area where three large obstacle areas are set up. 3,000 "crazies" treat themselves to this event every year, which has already won several awards.
