BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt's youthful snaps unveiled for birthday (2025)

BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt is celebrating his 62nd birthday today.

BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt joined the morning show in 2006 as a relief presenter, before being made the weekend presenter in 2007. He later moved with the show to Salford and presents the programme from Thursday to Saturday with co-star Naga Munchetty.

Charlie's career began in commercial radio in his home town of Gloucester and he later hosted Capital Radio's news programme, The Way It Is. His other places of work included LBC and BBC Radio 5 Live before he made his move to television.

He started his TV journey at ITN in 1995, before joining Five News as a reporter. After a decade at ITN he joined the BBC.

The star lives in Twickenham with his wife Anne Breckell and two children. He has previously wowed fans with his real age as they claimed he looked "10 years younger".

In August 2022 he was interviewing a 92-year-old man about resitting his GCSEs when he spoke about the sliding rule used in maths classrooms before calculators were allowed. Fans were shocked to learn he was in his 60s, claiming he looked a decade younger.

Charlie joined the BBC in 2006 and he can be seen with youthful skin and dark brown hair.

His charming smile captured the nation as he worked his way up the ranks to a regular presenter.

Charlie started his TV career at ITN news and his reporter role saw him visiting various events across a wide range of locations.

Reporting on the Best Ever Album list, he was seen visiting a HMV store to interview customers.

Charlie left Five News after nine years, having joined as part of the show's launch team in 1997.

He said in a statement: "I've been with Five News for nine years and now need to involve myself in other projects."

In the year 2000, Charlie took over as anchor for the 5 News bulletin for the weekday evening slot.

At the time he said: "Working with the 5 News team continues to be the most rewarding and professional experience. I’m delighted to be taking up the role as anchor and continue working with such an innovative team.”

The BBC announced Charlie's breakfast show role in September 2006, listing his extensive career highlights from covering 9/11 to hosting live reality TV shows.

The original article said: "He says he was a 'late starter as a journalist', but that his years spent working as a roofer, a roadie and a barman were not entirely wasted."
